CHESS/NGF Annual Meeting 2023

All CHESS PhDs, supervisors, and members of our international evaluation board are warmly invited to the CHESS and NGF Annual Meeting, 25-28 September 2023, at the Tyrifjord hotel in Vikersund, near Oslo. All are welcome to attend this great networking and scientific event. The meeting will start at around 11:30 on 25th and will end at lunch on 28th September.

The general non-scientific themes of the meeting are career development, start-up/innovation, and interdisciplinarity.

CHESS started a close collaboration with the Norwegian Geophysical Society (Norsk Geofysisk Forening, NGF), which is envisioned to carry the legacy of CHESS. The scientific presentation part of the NGF annual meeting will be integrated with the CHESS AM. The annual members meeting of NGF will be held on the last day.

Student presentations

All PhD candidates are expected to present their research, either as a poster or an oral presentation, which is a great opportunity to receive feedback from fellow PhD candidates and supervisors.

Each presentation session will be chaired by two PhD candidates, who will give a 5-minute introduction to the session topic at the beginning of their session and moderate the question time after each presentation. In addition, they are responsible to monitor the timing of the session. If you would like to be a session chair, please tick this option when you submit your abstract.

The duration of each talk will be 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions and discussion. A committee, consisting of both PhD candidates and supervisors, will give comments and feedback to each presenter.

Expenses

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for all our members and invited guests. As the amount of available rooms is limited, all PhDs will share a room with a fellow PhD candidate. You can indicate with whom you would like to share a room on the registration form and coordinate with a fellow registered participant.

Please note that we do not reimburse taxi fee for CHESS members unless we agree with this arrangement before the trip.
