Your privacy is important to CHESS

CHESS is responsible for the processing of personal data for the purpose of your course/event/conference registration and participation. CHESS attaches great importance to protecting your personal data and maintaining privacy. This policy describes the types of personal information we may collect from you, the purposes for which we use the information, the circumstances in which we may share the information and the steps that we take to safeguard the information to protect your privacy.

The personal data we collect and why

When entering your data into the online registration form we collect this data from you for the purpose of registering you for the course/event/conference. We only collect personal data deemed to be necessary for this purpose.

You are, of course, not required to supply any of the information we may request. However, failure to do so may result in us not being able to register you for the activity.

We collect the following data for the purpose of course/event/conference registration:

In general: Name, Sex, Email address, CHESS membership status
Sometimes, we need to collect additional data including Job title, Telephone number, Date of Birth, Citizenship, or other data which are necessary to third parties/organizers/lecturers.

In addition, we collect information about participants’ place of employment, but such data is not defined as personal data.

Use and disclosure of your personal data

By submitting the registration form you consent to the processing of the entered information by CHESS as described in this privacy statement. CHESS will use the personal information to process your registration, communicate with you, and obtain feedback in regards to the course/event/conference.

In doing so, your information may transferred and shared with third parties/organizers/lecturers who will be running the activity, providing registration, accommodation, entertainment or other services in connection with the activity. CHESS will not sell or disclose your personal data to other third parties without your consent. CHESS may only use the data to provide you with further information from CHESS.

Controlling your personal data

You are entitled to access any personal data about you held by CHESS, by sending a written request to post@chess.uib.no.

You are entitled to have CHESS modify or delete any information that you believe is incorrect or out of date.
