CHESS Annual Meeting 2022

All CHESS PhDs, supervisors, and members of our international evaluation board are warmly invited to our Annual Meeting, 9-13 May 2022, on board of Hurtigruten from Tromsø to Bergen. Yep, finally! The meeting on Hurtigruten was planned and postponed twice due to the corona pandemic. Finally, we were able to reserve cabins onboard MS Trollfjord and after two years with hybrid meetings, we hope we can meet in-person again.

The meeting will start 9 May afternoon at 15:00 in Tromsø, where we will first meet at a venue in town to kick off our Annual Meeting. As the ship does not arrive before 23:45, we will have our first dinner ashore in Tromsø before we will jointly head to the Hurtigruten terminal to check in. The meeting will continue onboard MS Trollfjord for the next four days. The meeting will end before lunch on 13 May and we will arrive in Bergen at the Hurtigruten Quay at around 14:45.

The general non-scientific theme of the meeting is outreach and communication.

Student presentations

All PhD candidates are expected to present their research, either as a poster or an oral presentation, which is a great opportunity to receive feedback from fellow PhD candidates and supervisors.

Each presentation session will be chaired by two PhD candidates, who will give a 5-minute introduction to the session topic at the beginning of their session and moderate the question time after each presentation. In addition, they are responsible to monitor the timing of the session. If you would like to be a session chair, please indicate this on the abstract submission form.

Duration of each talk will be 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions and discussion. A committee, consisting of both PhD candidates and supervisors, will give comments and feedback to each presenter.

Expenses:

Travel and the cruise expenses will be covered for all our members and all invited guests. As the amount of available cabins is limited, all PhDs will share a cabin with a fellow PhD candidate. Depending on the number of registered participants, supervisors might also have to share a cabin. Please indicate with whom you would like to share a cabin on the registration form and coordinate with a fellow registered participant.
